Abbas Araghchi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss the strengthening of strategic ties between Iran and Russia, according to reports from CNN.

The two officials reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to its strategic relationship with Tehran, as reported by the Russian state news agency TASS.

The meeting comes after recent attempts at peace talks between the United States and Iran failed to materialize over the weekend.

During the meeting, Putin expressed support for Iran, stating that the Iranian people are “fighting with courage and heroism for their independence and sovereignty,” according to TASS.

He also noted that he had received a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Khamenei has not appeared publicly or been heard from directly since assuming leadership, communicating only through written messages.
