A serious railway accident in Indonesia has left at least 14 people dead and 84 others injured after a collision between two trains near Jakarta.
The crash occurred near Bekasi Timur station, about 25 kilometers east of the capital, when a stationary passenger train was struck by a long-distance train. Authorities said all the victims were on board the train that was hit, while around 240 passengers from the other train were safely evacuated.
Rescue operations continued throughout the night into the early morning, as emergency teams worked to extract survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the crash. He also visited injured victims in hospital, offering condolences to the families of those who died and promising full transparency in the investigation.
The collision reportedly occurred at around 8:40 p.m. local time, with authorities still working to determine the exact cause and responsibility for the tragedy.
