Authorities in Greece have announced new measures to speed up controls and reduce waiting times at the border crossings of Evzoni Border Crossing and Kipi Border Crossing following the implementation of the new European Entry/Exit System (EES).

The decision was taken during a working meeting in Thessaloniki, convened by Greek Deputy Minister of Interior Konstantinos Gkoulkas, with participation from institutional representatives, security services, and local authorities.

According to Gkoulkas, tourist flows and commercial transport toward Greece are continuously increasing, while mandatory biometric data checks for every person entering or leaving the country are causing additional delays at police control points.

Meanwhile, Greek Minister for Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis stated that Greece is obliged to implement EU legislation, adding that complaints about the EES system have also come from North Macedonia and Serbia.
