The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation has officially signed vital engineering contracts aimed at rehabilitating unstable slopes and active landslides along the R7 “Ibrahim Rugova” Highway.
The extensive infrastructural safety initiative represents a total public investment of €4,673,997.88. The engineering project targets three critical structural failure zones along the vital transit artery that links Kosovo directly with Albania. These segments have long required specialized technical interventions to protect the roadbed from degradation and guarantee driver safety.
1. Financial and Spatial Allocation of the Rehabilitation Project
To ensure efficient logistical execution and simultaneous site development, the Ministry has structurally divided the engineering works into three highly specific geographic lots.
Financial Allocation & Kilometer Markers for R7 Repairs
[ LOT 1: MAIN STABILIZATION AXIS ] ──► €2,087,952.94
• Dedicated exclusively to a massive slope failure at Kilometer Marker 72.4.
This constitutes the most complex engineering phase of the project.
[ LOT 2: DUAL SLIPPAGE ZONE ] ──► €1,187,080.09
• Covering structural remediation at two distinct, closely linked failure zones
located at Kilometer Marker 69.1 and Kilometer Marker 63.4.
[ LOT 3: SOUTHERN SECTOR INTERVENTION ] ──► €1,398,964.85
• Allocated for targeted retaining walls and geotechnical slope stabilization
at Kilometer Marker 44.0.
The localized degradation of these slopes had posed an ongoing, escalating hazard to the heavily trafficked commercial corridor, particularly during heavy seasonal rainfall. Geotechnical assessments indicate that without these specialized interventions, minor slope movements threaten to undermine the structural integrity of the highway’s foundation itself.
2. Engineering Strategy and Mobilization Timeline
The contracted economic operators are slated to begin active on-site mobilization and initial survey deployments within the coming days.

3. Structural Cost Distribution Matrix
The financial breakdown outlines how the multi-million euro budget is distributed across the specialized construction zones along the R7 highway.
| Project Lot Designation | Exact Location (Kilometer Marker) | Financial Investment (EUR) | Operational Objective |
| Lot 1 | KM 72.4 | €2,087,952.94 | Extensive landslide stabilization and deep-pile slope pinning. |
| Lot 2 | KM 69.1 & KM 63.4 | €1,187,080.09 | Mitigating secondary soil erosion and rebuilding affected embankments. |
| Lot 3 | KM 44.0 | €1,398,964.85 | Constructing reinforced concrete retaining walls to secure the hillside. |
| TOTAL BUDGET | Multi-Site Grid | €4,673,997.88 | Comprehensive R7 Highway Geotechnical Safety Overhaul. |
With contracts signed and funding fully allocated, the Ministry intends to oversee tight adherence to safety and engineering standards. Motorists traveling along the “Ibrahim Rugova” highway are advised to exercise heightened caution and look out for oncoming construction signals as heavy machinery moves to the designated locations along the corridor.
