Leaders of the G7 countries are expected to hold talks on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the ongoing situation in Ukraine. U.S. President Donald Trump stated: “Maybe we can do something,” referring to efforts to end the conflict that has lasted for more than four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

G7 leaders will meet in the French city of Évian, where Zelensky will participate in a special morning session dedicated to the war in Ukraine. Later in the day, leaders are also expected to discuss the situation in Iran during a session that will include participation from Arab leaders as well.

European leaders, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, are expected to remind Trump of the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia to accept a peace agreement aligned with Kyiv’s conditions, rather than forcing Ukraine into concessions.

Zelensky has called for a “decisive and substantial” response from the G7 following recent Russian attacks, which have caused casualties and severe damage, including a fire at a historic cathedral in Kyiv. He also revealed that he proposed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the summit, but according to him, Moscow “was not ready.”

Meanwhile, Trump has expressed optimism following his contacts with Zelensky and Putin, saying that the parties are “open” to dialogue, without providing further details.
