The Basic Court in Prishtina has ordered one month of pre-trial detention for a Serbian national suspected of committing five criminal offenses in connection with the attack on KFOR personnel in Zvecan.
The suspect, identified by the initials I.M., is accused of:
- Joining or organizing activities against the constitutional order;
- Endangering persons under international protection;
- Participating in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism;
- Assaulting an official;
- Unauthorized possession, control or ownership of a weapon.
Following a hearing, the Special Department of the Basic Court in Pristina approved the request of Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the suspect to remain in custody for one month.
The court said there is a real risk of flight, particularly because the suspect is a Serbian citizen and could potentially leave Kosovo and become inaccessible to the justice authorities.
The court also found a risk that, if released, the suspect could interfere with evidence or influence witnesses, concluding that pre-trial detention is currently the only adequate measure to ensure the uninterrupted conduct of the criminal proceedings.
The suspect has the right to appeal the decision before the Court of Appeals through the Basic Court in Prishtina.
