Kosovo Customs officials have stopped a foreign-registered vehicle at the Kulla border crossing and seized a scope believed to be intended for use with a sniper rifle, authorities said.
The vehicle was driven by a Kosovo citizen who, during questioning, did not declare that he was carrying goods or equipment requiring declaration.
Based on suspicions raised during the initial inspection, customs officers conducted a detailed search of the vehicle and discovered the sniper rifle scope. The driver was unable to provide the required documentation or authorization for the equipment.
“The goods were detained by Kosovo Customs, while appropriate measures were taken against the individual and misdemeanor proceedings, as well as other administrative procedures, were initiated in accordance with applicable legislation,” Kosovo Customs said in a statement.
The equipment was not permitted to enter the country without the required documentation.
Kosovo Customs said it continues to strengthen controls at border crossing points to prevent the entry of dangerous, restricted or prohibited goods and to help protect public safety.
