Kosovo’s Ministry of Education has confirmed that the 2026/27 school year will begin on September 1, putting an end to speculation that the start of classes could be postponed.

The clarification follows unverified reports circulating in recent days suggesting that the beginning of the school year might be delayed.

Besnik Dragusha, head of Kosovo’s Parents’ Council, told KosovaPress that some of the confusion may have stemmed from comparisons with Albania, where the new school year is scheduled to begin on September 14.

“The ministry has already published the school calendar, and it is now official that classes will begin on September 1,” Dragusha said, stressing that Kosovo’s schedule is not based on Albania’s school calendar.

He added that individual schools undergoing renovation could experience minor delays, potentially lasting a day, but emphasized that this would not change the official start date for the education system as a whole.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has urged parents not to rush to purchase textbooks, as negotiations with publishing houses over textbook prices have not yet been completed.

Once the negotiations are finalized, the Ministry of Education will publish the final textbook catalogue, including prices, and determine the amount allocated for each student to purchase the required books.

The ministry has also called on bookstores not to begin selling textbooks until the procedures are completed and an official announcement is issued.
