Following the verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, the Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-KLA) has announced that it will hold a meeting today, followed by a press conference.
“The Organization of War Veterans of the KLA will convene its Steering Council and structures at its headquarters on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. to assess the situation created following the decision of the Specialist Chambers,” the OVL-KLA said in a statement issued yesterday.
The Specialist Chambers sentenced Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison each, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years. The former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army were convicted of war crimes, including unlawful or arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture, and unlawful killing.
The Specialist Chambers found that the four were responsible for the arbitrary detention of 385 people, cruel treatment of 49 people, torture of 303 people, and unlawful killing of 96 people.
They were acquitted of crimes against humanity after the allegations that they had carried out attacks against the civilian population were not proven. The defendants were also acquitted in relation to a number of alleged war-crime incidents.
