Serbian Parliament Speaker and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) vice-president Ana Brnabić has appealed to the European Parliament, its political groups, European Commissioner Marta Kos and EU Ambassador to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath over a campaign video published by students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) involved in the student blockades.
Brnabić shared the video on X and called on European institutions and political groups to review it and comment on whether its content is compatible with democratic standards and free elections.
According to Brnabić, the video calls on voters to support the Students’ List in Serbia’s October 25 parliamentary elections. She characterized the footage as containing threats against President Aleksandar Vučić, including what she interpreted as a reference to sexual violence.
“The video calls on people to vote for the Students’ List, while promising that they will take justice into their own hands, arrest and inhumanely punish anyone who thinks differently,” Brnabić wrote.
She said the closing sequence, which includes soap in a prison cell, should be understood as a threat of sexual violence against Vučić.
Brnabić argued that the video should not be considered a normal part of an election campaign and called on European partners to respond to it. She said Serbia needed political programmes and a vision for the future rather than threats and hatred.
The video, reportedly published by the FDU student-blockade account, is presented in black and white and is titled “Serbia Didn’t Want Him.” It depicts Vučić and includes scenes referring to his arrest and subsequent sexual violence, according to reports by Serbian media.
SNS President Miloš Vučević also condemned the video, describing it as an attempt to “dehumanize” Vučić and alleging that it reflects the political approach of the Students’ List.
The Students’ List is participating in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25. Vučić is leading the electoral list backed by the SNS, titled “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia.”
The controversy comes during an increasingly contentious election campaign, with competing political camps publicly accusing one another of using inflammatory rhetoric and questioning the intentions and political programme of their opponents.
