SNS activists turned up at a student campaign stand in Novi Sad and, according to students and local choir members cited by Danas, quickly turned a political campaign event into a confrontation involving insults, provocations, throwing objects and physical pushing.
The students say the SNS group deliberately appeared next to their stand and began provoking those gathered. They allege that activists threw objects, filmed them while shouting insults and eventually moved into a physical confrontation. SNS candidate Vukašin Đoković is specifically accused by witnesses of trying to take the students’ “Students Are Winning” flag, triggering pushing and a brief struggle.
What began as a small student gathering near Futoška Market reportedly grew into a much larger confrontation, with dozens of SNS supporters gathering at one corner while several hundred citizens and students spread across the remaining parts of the intersection. The students eventually moved away from the original stand as tensions increased.
The incident raises serious questions about the conduct of ruling-party activists during Serbia’s election campaign. The students’ accounts, as reported by Danas, describe a campaign tactic based not simply on competing for voters, but on confronting and provoking opponents at their own campaign events.
The reported allegations have not been independently established by Danas, and responsibility for the confrontation would ultimately depend on evidence and any police investigation.
