A threatening email sent to approximately 150 official addresses belonging to Albanian state institutions was reportedly traced to a public university in Colombia, although authorities suspect the sender’s email account may have been hacked.
According to journalist Xhensila Kodra, the message was sent from an address associated with Unitropico, the International University of the American Tropics, located in Yopal, Colombia.
The email’s author claimed to be the “leader of the Serbian militia” and threatened revenge against Albanian institutions, alleging that explosive devices had been planted in their buildings. The message also contained threats against Albanians over Kosovo’s status.
Following the threat, Albania’s State Police launched verification procedures and confirmed that no explosives had been found at the institutions concerned.
“Threatening messages claiming that explosive devices had been placed inside their premises were sent to the official email addresses of several state institutions,” the State Police said in a statement.
The police added that specialized units were continuing their investigation under the direction of the prosecution to identify the source of the messages.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the sender or established who was responsible for the threats. The suspected compromise of the email account remains an important aspect of the investigation.
