The Court of Appeal has upheld the life sentences imposed on Ljupčo Palevski, known as Palčo, Velibor Manev, Bore Videvski and Vlatko Keshishev, but overturned the decision to acquit Aleksandar Gjorčevski, the father of Vanja Gjorčevska.
The appellate judges believe that the Skopje Criminal Court failed to sufficiently assess the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against Gjorčevski.
“Our recommendation is to reassess the evidence, with specific indications, particularly the statements given by the defendants to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the statement of Vanja Gjorčevska’s mother and messages exchanged through Viber,” the judges of the Skopje Court of Appeal told journalists at a meeting on Thursday.
The Criminal Court had previously announced that it would schedule a new trial for Aleksandar Gjorčevski following the appellate decision.
Vanja Gjorčevska and Panče Žežovski were murdered in November 2023.
