More than three years after the armed attack in Banjska that claimed the life of Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, Serbia has yet to bring all those responsible to justice, according to the organization Albanians for America.
Meanwhile, Milan Radoičić, who has admitted organizing the armed group behind the September 24, 2023, attack, has been seen attending a rally of Serbia’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). The event was also attended by the son of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Radoičić’s public appearance has raised questions about Belgrade’s willingness to ensure accountability for the attack and the extent to which Serbian authorities are prepared to pursue those implicated in the case.
In a recently published opinion piece, Albanians for America examined the political implications of Radoičić’s appearance, questioning Serbia’s commitment to justice, regional stability and its relations with Western partners.
The organization called on the United States and the European Union to demand concrete and measurable steps from Belgrade to ensure accountability for the Banjska attack.
According to Albanians for America, justice for Banjska should not remain limited to diplomatic statements but must be accompanied by tangible action to hold those responsible accountable.
Radoičić, the former deputy leader of the Serb List party, admitted organizing the armed group that carried out the attack in northern Kosovo on September 24, 2023. He is also subject to US sanctions.
The attack remains one of the most serious security incidents in northern Kosovo since 1999. Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed during clashes with the armed group.
The case continues to be a major point of tension between Kosovo and Serbia, with demands for accountability remaining central to discussions about security and relations between the two sides.
