Kosovo President Justina Shiroka-Pula has visited the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, who are facing judicial proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
According to a statement from the Presidency, during the meetings, the president expressed solidarity with the families of the former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders, describing this as a difficult period both for them and for the Republic of Kosovo.
Shiroka-Pula reiterated that the right to appeal is part of the judicial process and that Kosovo’s institutions will continue to provide support to the former KLA leaders within the scope of their institutional responsibilities and capabilities.
The statement also highlighted the importance of preserving the historical truth about the KLA war, which the president described as a struggle for freedom waged in the face of oppression, violence and crimes committed by the Serbian regime against the people of Kosovo.
During the visits, she informed the families that she would take action regarding the Law on the Specialist Chambers in accordance with the legal deadlines.
“The families are not alone on this journey. The Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo will remain open to them, acting within its constitutional and legal powers to support efforts to achieve justice,” President Shiroka-Pula said.
