European Union leaders and representatives of the Western Balkans will meet in Brussels on November 25 for a summit focused on relations between the EU and the region, according to the European Council.
The summit will reaffirm the strategic importance of ties between the European Union and the Western Balkans, as well as the region’s prospects for EU membership.
The EU will be represented by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“The future of the Western Balkans is in the European Union. Their accession is our priority, our shared ambition and an essential geopolitical investment in these turbulent times. The EU is and will remain the region’s most reliable partner,” Costa said.
Discussions are expected to focus on the reforms Western Balkan countries must implement to advance their EU accession processes, as well as progress toward the region’s gradual integration into the bloc.
Particular attention will be given to the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and opportunities to further implement the initiative.
Leaders will also examine shared challenges and ways to strengthen security and resilience amid an increasingly complex geopolitical situation.
The summit forms part of the implementation of the European Council’s Strategic Agenda for 2024–2029.
The most recent summit between EU and Western Balkan leaders took place in Montenegro in June 2026.
