The Catalan party “Junts per Catalunya” have taken an initiative in the Parliament of Spain to ask the Government of Spain to recognize the independence of Kosovo from the Spanish Government. In an exclusive interview for the Express newspaper, the leader of the Catalan deputies in the Parliament of Spain, Miriam Nogueras, spoke about this issue.

In this interview for Express Newspaper, the Catalan politician has shown that the Catalan, Basque and Galician parties are currently supporting the initiative and that the position of the Spanish parties regarding the recognition of Kosovo remains the same. She says that the Spanish refusal to recognize Kosovo is related to the fear that it could be a precedent for the possible recognition of an independent Catalan state by other countries.

Nogueras has shown that the proposal that requires the Government of Spain to recognize Kosovo can pass the Parliament with a simple majority, however, he clarifies that only the Government of Spain can make a decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

The leader of the Catalan deputies said that they will not stop asking for support for their initiative until the last minute and adds that they will continue to seek the recognition of Kosovo even after the vote that will take place on June 25, since they consider it as issues of values and political principles for respecting the right to self-determination for all nations.
