Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has called on the European Union to grant Kosovo candidate status, arguing that the country’s current position in the European integration process does not reflect the progress it has achieved.

Kurti stated that Kosovo deserves to advance to the next stage of European integration and begin accession negotiations with the EU.

He recalled that nearly four years have passed since Kosovo submitted its application for EU membership, while the country remains the only one in the Western Balkans that has not been granted candidate status.

“Despite this, Kosovo remains the only country in the Western Balkans without candidate status,” Kurti said.

During his address, the Prime Minister directly appealed to EU Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, calling for the questionnaire related to Kosovo’s membership application to be delivered as soon as possible, paving the way for the opening of EU accession negotiations.

“Ambassador, allow me to reiterate our request for the questionnaire concerning our application to be delivered as soon as possible, so that the path towards opening accession negotiations can be cleared,” Kurti stated.
