Russia said it had intercepted dozens of Ukrainian drones launched last night in the direction of its territory.

The reported attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed revenge for the mass attacks a day earlier in Ukraine that left at least 37 people dead.

Kiev has not yet commented on the Russian claims.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that 38 drones in five regions had been seized, including: 21 in Rostov, seven in Kursk, five in Astrakhan, three in Belgorod and two in Voronezh.

Local media reported that airports in the southern regions of Astrakhan and Volgograd have restricted flights following the drone attacks.

According to the governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, Ukrainian shelling in the region left four people dead and 20 wounded.

He added that the attack caused power outages and damaged 60 houses and 160 apartments.

In Volgograd, an oil depot and an electrical substation were engulfed in flames as debris fell from drones, regional governor Andrei Bocharov said.

A day earlier, authorities in Ukraine said Russian rocket attacks targeted several cities in the country, killing 37 people – including 21 in Kiev.

A children’s hospital was also the target of the attacks, where two employees were killed.

The West condemned the Russian attacks, while the United Nations Security Council is expected to discuss them today. /REL/
