Full Statement by Prime Minister Kurti
“There have been 6,509 applications for converting driver’s licenses from illegal to official ones of the Republic of Kosovo. In just the four municipalities in the northern part of our country, 5,732 driver’s licenses were converted, including 2,018 in Leposaviq, 1,576 in North Mitrovica, 1,177 in Zvečan, and 961 in Zubin Potok.
The registration period began on May 9 and was initially set to end on August 9. Due to numerous requests and high interest in converting driver’s licenses, we extended this period by two weeks, up until yesterday, August 23. This more than three-month conversion period passed without any incidents or complaints.
Our citizens from the Serbian community have taken a significant step towards integration by responding in large numbers to the call for applying to convert this document.
I thank all our citizens who took advantage of this opportunity positively, as well as the officials in our institutions at the registration offices and centers, for their work and assistance to applicants throughout this process.
It is worth noting that the highest number of conversions took place in Leposaviq, with a total of 2,018 driver’s licenses, followed by North Mitrovica with 1,576, Zvečan with 1,177, and Zubin Potok with 961.”
Elshani had earlier announced that starting from Monday, fines ranging from 500 to 1,500 euros would be imposed for non-compliance, according to him.
