Americans are voting for their next president.

Polling stations have opened across the U.S. and will continue until evening.

Election officials, particularly in key states, according to CNN, have pledged to maintain the integrity of the vote and have urged voters not to fall for conspiracy theories.

Key developments so far:

  • Reports of minimal technical issues – So far, only a few minor delays have been reported due to minor equipment malfunctions.
  • Security of election infrastructure – The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has reported that there have been no major incidents nationwide that could threaten the security of election infrastructure.
  • Over 80 million early voters – As of now, around 83 million voters have cast their ballots before Election Day, according to data from 48 states and the District of Columbia. This number represents more than half of the total votes cast in the 2020 presidential election.
  • Speed of vote counting – Officials in Pennsylvania and Florida have stated they expect a quick count of votes. Results from Florida are expected to be made public by the end of the evening, while Philadelphia aims to finish counting by Wednesday noon.
  • Warnings against misinformation – Over 100 legal professionals have signed an open letter warning attorneys challenging votes in this election not to present false information in courts.
  • Monitors from the Department of Justice – After a lawsuit from Republican officials in Texas to block Department of Justice monitors, the state reached an agreement for the monitors to stay outside polling centers. Meanwhile, a federal judge ruled not to block monitors in St. Louis following a lawsuit from Republican officials in Missouri.

These are some of the key developments so far as Americans vote for the future of their country.
