The Greek police in Athens announced this Sunday that they would prevent a planned rally by Albanians, denying the permit requested by the organizers.
According to Greek media, the authorities informed that, by decision of the Director of the Southeastern Attica Police, the public gathering organized by Albanian citizens is prohibited.
The rally had been announced via social media and was scheduled to take place today at 19:00 on “Koris” street in the Alimos area.
However, according to the Greek police, the rally was banned due to “a serious risk of disrupting the social-economic life in the designated area, and its holding would cause traffic disruptions and block access to public services, organizations with public benefits, institutions providing medical services, as well as the functioning of public infrastructures, facilities, and the supply of essential goods.”
It is worth recalling that after the celebrations for Independence Day, where Albanians “invaded” the main square in Athens, Syntagma, celebrating with Albanian flags, dances, and patriotic songs, Greek media reacted harshly, accusing Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of being too lenient towards these displays by immigrants from Albania.
