Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the truck driver who struck a crowd in New Orleans displayed “intentional behavior.”
She explained that he was driving the truck “at a fast pace” on Bourbon Street.
Kirkpatrick said the driver was “attempting to hit as many people as possible.”
She confirmed that the numbers could change, but confirmed that 10 people have died and at least 35 others are injured.
The Chief added that authorities currently have limited information regarding those being treated in the hospital.
It remains unclear how many of the victims were tourists and how many were locals, she noted.
The driver fired from his vehicle at the police, she said.
“Two officers were shot,” she added, but noted that their condition is stable.
Kirkpatrick stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will take over the investigation.
