The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, participated in the signing ceremony of 220 new employee contracts at the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), held at the Kosovo B Power Plant.

In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti began by expressing his gratitude and appreciation to everyone involved after the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal. Despite the challenges, he also mentioned the successes, noting that in the past two years, KEK had hired 525 new employees, and today, 220 more were added to the Coal Division.

“With the increase in workers in production, we are securing the operation of KEK for the next two decades. And no one knows this better than you, how significant it is for both KEK and all of Kosovo, and how much the operation has been at risk precisely because of the lack of workers in production,” continued the Prime Minister, as stated in the announcement.

Meanwhile, Minister Artane Rizvanolli stated that KEK will continue to play a key role in our energy sector, and it is crucial to have employees who operate these technologies. She expressed her pleasure at being present at the start of this year, which she called the most important year for KEK in the last two decades.

In addition to KEK’s key role in managing the energy crisis and production, Prime Minister Kurti highlighted several other achievements, such as the completion of the boiler extension in Block B as planned (2023), the signing of contracts for the modernization of Kosovo B Power Plant which will begin in April, and cooperation with Albania: the exchange of 250 GWh, which saved Kosovo 50 million euros. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring supply security through energy procurement funded by the government’s budget and the record profit in recent years of 105.7 million euros.

“Meanwhile, in recent years, we have also achieved a record profit of 105.7 million euros, which enables investment in the rehabilitation of Kosovo A Power Plant. Speaking of this, the management has promised that the tender for the rehabilitation of block A3 will be announced this month,” he said, adding that in 2025, the 100 MW solar park project at KEK will commence.

At the end of the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli distributed cards to the new employees of KEK, wishing them all a prosperous year.
