KFOR Commander Enrico Barduani said that he rejected the request to deploy the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) in the northern part of Kosovo following the November 29 attack on the main Ibër-Lepenc canal, as he did not deem additional assistance necessary.

He added that, following actions taken by KFOR and the Kosovo Police, support from the Kosovo Security Force was not required.

“In accordance with the 2013 agreement signed between the institutions of Kosovo and NATO, institutions in Kosovo must seek approval from the KFOR commander for any possible deployment of Kosovo Security Force units in the northern part of the country. In the particular case of the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc water canal, after our security assessment and considering the actions taken by KFOR and especially the Kosovo Police, I did not see the need at that time for additional assistance from the Kosovo Security Force, which is why I rejected the request,” said the KFOR commander to Klan Kosovo.
