The U.S. envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, has confirmed that he will attend the Munich Security Conference next week, where he will discuss former President Donald Trump’s vision for ending the war in Ukraine, reports RFE.

Kellogg expressed his anticipation for the conference, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that he looks forward to discussing Trump’s plan to end the bloody and costly war. He also mentioned plans to meet with America’s allies who are willing to cooperate.

Speculation Over Trump’s Peace Proposal

Since Kellogg announced his participation in the Munich Security Conference (February 14-16), speculation has grown that he might reveal Trump’s strategy for ending the war. Bloomberg cited unnamed sources on February 5, suggesting that Kellogg would present the plan during the event.

While details remain scarce, Trump’s allies have hinted at a “peace through strength” approach. Reports indicate that the plan might propose:

  • Freezing the conflict, leaving Russian-occupied territories in an unresolved status.
  • Providing security guarantees to Ukraine, though specifics remain unclear.
  • Applying pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv to bring them to the negotiating table.

Russia and U.S. Increasing Diplomatic Contacts

On February 5, the Kremlin confirmed intensified contact with the U.S. regarding possible solutions to the war. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is willing to negotiate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s previous refusal to engage, arguing that Zelensky’s mandate expired last year.

Meanwhile, Zelensky signaled a potential softening of his stance, with reports indicating that both he and Putin might need to make concessions to reach an agreement.

Zelensky Open to Talks – Under Conditions

During a February 4 interview on YouTube, Zelensky expressed willingness for direct negotiations with Putin, but emphasized that such talks should include the United States and the European Union.

“If people believe that diplomacy is the way forward, and I believe we are ready for diplomacy, then the U.S., Europe, Ukraine, and Russia must be at the table,” Zelensky stated.

When asked how he would sit across from Putin, Zelensky replied:
“If it’s the only way to bring peace to Ukraine and save lives, then of course, we will go. But I will not be polite—he is my enemy.”

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Attend Munich Conference

The German government confirmed on February 5 that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance will attend the Munich Security Conference, alongside other world leaders. This adds further significance to the event, as speculation grows over Trump’s potential foreign policy direction if re-elected.

With heightened diplomatic activity, all eyes will be on Munich next week as the U.S. possibly unveils its Ukraine peace strategy.
