Ambassadors from several QUINT countries and the European Union’s special envoy to Kosovo held separate meetings with the leaders of Kosovo’s political parties, discussing the next steps following the parliamentary elections of February 9.
QUINT includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and France.
The Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Aivo Orav, held separate meetings with the leaders of the political parties, including Albin Kurti of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Memli Krasniqi of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku of the Democratic League of Kosovo, and Ramush Haradinaj of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
“I emphasized that the majority of the people in Kosovo aspire to join the EU. The new government must actively pursue reforms in order to achieve this,” he wrote on X, following his meetings with the party leaders.
Regarding his meeting with Ambassador Orav, the Prime Minister’s office stated that Kurti discussed with the European official the next steps for the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of the new Government.
“During the meeting, Ambassador Orav positively assessed the electoral process of February 9, calling it orderly and incident-free, and emphasized that it was also positively regarded by Brussels,” the statement said.
The leader of the PDK, Memli Krasniqi, also met with the French Ambassador Olivier Guerot and the British Ambassador Jonathan Hargreaves.
“The PDK considers the vote as an expression of political maturity and supports the swift formation of a functional and responsible government. Regardless of our political position, the interest of Kosovo and its citizens remains our primary guide moving forward,” Krasniqi wrote on Facebook after his meeting with the French Ambassador.
Meanwhile, the LDK stated that Abdixhiku and the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Orav, discussed the party’s position on the electoral process.
“President Abdixhiku emphasized that the LDK fully respects the citizen’s will expressed during this electoral process and also expects the Central Election Commission to conclude the counting and certification of results as soon as possible, emphasizing the importance of ensuring this process is completed democratically and without any further delays,” the LDK statement said.
Anu Prattipati, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, met with the head of the AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, to discuss the electoral process, current political developments in Kosovo, and the partnership between the two countries.
“I expressed my deep gratitude for the continuous support that the U.S. has provided to Kosovo over the years. This strong partnership is the best guarantee for Kosovo’s secure future and the long-term stability of the region,” Haradinaj wrote on Facebook after the meeting with Prattipati.
