New details have emerged regarding the diplomatic talks held between the Russian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia.
Fox News reports that the meeting discussed possible terms for an agreement between Kyiv and Moscow, which includes a ceasefire, new elections in Ukraine, and a peace agreement.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that the U.S. team agreed to lay the groundwork for cooperation with Russia on various issues, including the establishment of high-level teams to advance the peace process.
One of the key elements discussed was holding new elections in Ukraine, assuming that the current president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has low chances of being re-elected.
Moscow believes that another candidate would be more flexible and willing to negotiate.
Zelenskyy, for his part, has opposed any agreement without Ukraine’s direct involvement. In a phone call with Donald Trump last week, he urged the former U.S. president not to trust Vladimir Putin, calling him a “liar.”
The absence of European representatives in Tuesday’s talks has sparked reactions, particularly after U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s criticism of European allies at the Munich Security Conference.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the United Kingdom is ready to deploy troops to Ukraine to guarantee security as part of a peace agreement.
