The Basic Court in Pristina, Special Department, has imposed a one-month pretrial detention on the defendant Jelena Gjukanović, who is suspected of committing the criminal offense of espionage.

The decision was made following a request from the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo, which argued that there is a risk of the defendant fleeing, influencing evidence and witnesses, as well as the possibility of repeating the criminal offense.

The court assessed that, considering the serious nature of the criminal offense, the pretrial detention is necessary to ensure the proper course of the criminal procedure.

Jelena Gjukanović was arrested on February 28 in the Mitrovica region on suspicion of espionage on behalf of the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA).

She was initially detained for 48 hours by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

Her arrest came after months of investigation.
