German authorities have provided further details about the attack in Mannheim, where a suspect drove a vehicle into a group of people before attempting to take his own life.
According to Prosecutor Romeo Schuessler, the 40-year-old German suspect shot himself in the mouth after carrying out the attack. However, he survived the self-inflicted wound and is currently in stable condition at a hospital.
Police have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity, but investigators believe the incident is not linked to extremism. Authorities suspect that the individual suffers from mental health issues.
