Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), has responded to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that Dodik’s actions are undermining the country’s institutions and threatening its security and stability.
Dodik said that when the U.S. Secretary of State speaks, it is always serious, and he sees “returns” of the Biden administration in Rubio’s comments.
“When the U.S. Secretary of State speaks, it’s always serious, and I accept it as such. But in what he said, I see returns of the Biden administration. We know that Trump’s people didn’t penetrate every pore. I’m glad Rubio knows about us, even if he writes negatively. He made a series of mistakes. The Secretary of State does not have time, and I understand this, to go into details. The concerns about BiH’s position are something we’ve heard from the Biden administration.”
Dodik continued by saying this could be part of lobbying known from the legacy of the Biden administration. “When he says he is concerned about BiH’s future, we are concerned too. Because it is threatened by anti-Dayton and anti-international legal acts, and he did not notice that Schmidt was not appointed to the UN. They took the model for how he was appointed to the UN, even though he was not appointed according to the procedures,” Dodik added.
Furthermore, he stressed that it should be clear what is happening and not just approve “false narratives created in the Biden administration.”
“He is wrong to claim this. He may be a deity, but not the U.S. Secretary of State. It would be better to read what is happening here and not just approve the false narratives created in the Biden administration,” said Dodik.
Dodik also stated that they cannot give up on their policies.
“In Republika Srpska, we’ve had such moments, we’ve had threats, three years of an ambassador who did nothing but harm Republika Srpska. We cannot give up on our goals and policies, regardless of who is on the other side. I ask everyone who wants to take a stance here to listen to the other side. They cannot decide for us; they must decide with us,” Dodik said.
Earlier today, Rubio posted on the social media platform “X,” calling on partners in the region to join the U.S. in opposing destabilizing behaviors.
“The actions of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, are undermining the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and threatening its security and stability. Our nation encourages political leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to engage in constructive and responsible dialogue. We call on our partners in the region to join us in opposing this dangerous and destabilizing behavior,” Rubio wrote.
