U.S. President Donald Trump said he was being “a bit sarcastic” when he repeatedly claimed during his campaign that the war between Russia and Ukraine could end within 24 hours.
Trump responded to this question in an interview for the “Full Measure” show, as his administration continues to try to mediate a solution, 54 days into his second term, reports “Local10.”
“I was a bit sarcastic when I said that. What I really meant to say is that I want to end it, and I believe I will succeed,” said Trump.
In May 2023, Trump told CNN, “They are dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I will end it – I will end it in 24 hours.”
His special envoy, Steve Witkoff, was in Moscow this week for talks on the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire, which Ukraine accepted.
