Haxhi Thaçi, the father of former President Hashim Thaçi, passed away yesterday evening. Upon hearing the sad news, citizens, friends, and colleagues flooded social media with reactions and condolences directed to the Thaçi family.
The time for the funeral ceremony of the 87-year-old remains unknown. Moreover, it is still unclear whether The Hague will grant Hashim Thaçi permission to attend the funeral.
The Specialized Chambers (SC) have commented on the matter.
SC spokesperson Michael Doyle told Klankosova.tv that detainees are allowed to request humanitarian leave, but did not provide a concrete answer regarding whether the former president will be permitted to attend the funeral.
“The legal framework of the Kosovo Specialized Chambers allows detainees to submit requests to the competent judges for compelling humanitarian reasons. Judges will make decisions on such requests. All public documents, including submissions from the defense and decisions of the judges, are published on the KSC website. Therefore, if and when any further information on this matter becomes available, it will be published on the KSC website,” emphasized Doyle.
