A mass gathering took place on the plateau of the “Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, where students paid tribute to the victims of the fire at the “Puls” nightclub in Kočani.
The “joint moment of silence,” scheduled for noon, was delayed by half an hour due to heavy rain but eventually began with a seven-minute silence by a large group of students who filled the campus of North Macedonia’s largest university.
The commemorative event was organized by the University Student Assembly of “Cyril and Methodius” University. Rector Biljana Angelova and Minister of Education and Science of North Macedonia Vesna Janevska addressed the attendees.
Students lined up to light candles for the fire victims, lay flowers, and contribute money for the families of the victims in donation boxes placed in front of the Faculty of Philosophy.
The University Student Assembly announced that similar “joint lessons” and gatherings will continue daily until March 21. President of the Student Assembly, Aleksandar Nikolovski, mentioned that tomorrow’s event will take place at the Technical Faculty campus, followed by events at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics on Wednesday, the Faculty of Pedagogy on Thursday, and a march through Skopje or a trip to Kočani on Friday.
Rector Angelova and Minister Janevska’s speeches were briefly interrupted to provide medical assistance to students who had fallen ill.
Despite the rain, a large number of students and citizens showed up to participate in the tribute, expressing solidarity with the families of the deceased and honoring the victims of the tragedy.
