Lithuania has announced plans to send around 40 soldiers to NATO’s mission in Kosovo, following a request made by Germany, according to LRT.it.

This request is included in a draft resolution for Lithuania’s participation in international operations, which was registered last week and foresees increasing the number of troops that could be sent to the Kosovo mission to 60.

Currently, the mandate only allows the deployment of five soldiers.

“Discussions at the level of defense institutions in both countries have determined that the most feasible option for joint participation in international operations is to send Lithuanian troops to a German military unit taking part in the NATO-led international operation in Kosovo.”

Last December, the Ministry of Defense received Berlin’s request to assign a Lithuanian unit the size of a company to a German company.

This unit, along with a national support element and a liaison officer, would form an additional national contingent of about 40 Lithuanian troops.
