Kosovo has been facing cyberattacks for three consecutive days, with hacker groups of Russian origin — allegedly supported by the Russian state — targeting the websites of key institutions, cybersecurity expert Halil Berisha warned.

In a statement on Facebook, Berisha explained that the cyberattacks focused on major government platforms, including the websites of the Prime Minister’s Office, various ministries, the national airport, and several organizations.

The attack was identified as a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) assault, where an overwhelming surge of traffic disrupts website functionality.

Berisha assured the public that no sensitive institutional data had been compromised, crediting swift action by Kosovo’s authorities in safeguarding digital infrastructure. However, he emphasized the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents.

“Although most websites have been restored, greater efforts are required to strengthen defenses against upcoming threats,” Berisha noted, adding that Russian hacker groups are reportedly preparing a new wave of attacks, potentially targeting private companies and additional organizations.
