Ilir Kërçeli, a member of the Movement for Self-Determination (LVV), has firmly stated that Albulena Haxhiu is the party’s choice for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly in this legislative term. Kërçeli emphasized that while there are other potential candidates within LVV, the decision to nominate Haxhiu was based on her overwhelming electoral success, making her the most voted woman in Kosovo. He further explained that this decision reflects LVV’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and the party’s goal of having women in significant leadership roles.

Kërçeli pointed out that the party is determined to continue its efforts to have women in one of the top three state leadership positions, with Haxhiu chosen to hold the prestigious position of Speaker. “It’s not a coincidence that Albulena Haxhiu has been chosen,” Kërçeli said, highlighting her significant support from voters. He also noted that the choice to nominate a woman for such a high-ranking position underscores LVV’s dedication to ensuring equal representation in the country’s most important political offices.

However, Kërçeli expressed concerns over the opposition parties’ stance on Haxhiu’s candidacy, calling it unnecessary and counterproductive. According to Kërçeli, the opposition’s attempts to block Haxhiu’s candidacy by imposing barriers represents a harmful political precedent. He argued that it is not the role of opposition parties to decide the candidates put forward by other political groups. He stressed that if this approach continues, it could lead to a situation where the opposition dictates who holds positions in other areas of governance, including the Presidency.

“The barricading of Haxhiu’s candidacy by opposition parties is in no one’s interest. We must move forward with the formation of the Assembly and find a solution to end the political deadlock,” Kërçeli stated. His comments reflect the growing frustration with the ongoing political crisis in Kosovo, which has left the Assembly unable to operate effectively.

Kërçeli also responded to criticisms from the opposition that Haxhiu’s leadership style could be divisive. Some parties have raised concerns that her appointment could lead to further polarization within Kosovo’s political landscape. In response, Kërçeli urged caution and argued that it is premature to judge someone’s abilities before they have had the chance to take office and perform the duties of the position. He said, “We cannot prejudge how Albulena Haxhiu will act as Speaker. It is unfair to label her as divisive before she has even taken office.”

Kërçeli’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions as Kosovo continues to grapple with the complex dynamics of its political environment. As the country seeks to move forward with the consolidation of its democratic institutions, the formation of the Assembly remains a crucial step in overcoming the challenges it currently faces.

In conclusion, Kërçeli reaffirmed that the nomination of Haxhiu reflects a commitment to both gender equality and effective governance, and that opposition efforts to obstruct her candidacy only serve to prolong the political stalemate. With the ongoing discussions, all eyes are now on whether the political parties can resolve their differences and allow the Assembly to function as intended, paving the way for a stable and united Kosovo.
