May 4, 2025 – On International Firefighters’ Day, Kosovo’s firefighters gave citizens of the capital a unique opportunity to get up close with their equipment at Zahir Pajaziti Square in Prishtina.

On their special day, the firefighters also voiced their request for greater institutional support.

Malë Gashi, Director of Firefighters, stated that this day was not a celebration, but a day to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. He emphasized that investing in this service is about preserving human life, not for individual gain.

Behar Shala, a firefighter, highlighted the numerous challenges ahead, pointing out the need for further support.

The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, expressed that the municipality has made efforts to invest in the firefighters, bringing in physiotherapists and nutritionists, providing them with daily meals, and ordering new equipment for their work. Rama also called for the central government to hire 44 new firefighters due to the pressing need.

At Zahir Pajaziti Square, citizens were able to explore the diverse firefighting equipment and ask questions about their work, fostering a better understanding of the vital role firefighters play in maintaining public safety.
