The Basic Court in Pristina has ordered a 30-day pre-trial detention for Hysri Selimi, who is suspected of committing the criminal offense of espionage.
According to the court’s reasoning, there is a risk of flight, taking into account the circumstances and the manner in which the criminal offense was allegedly committed. The court stated that Selimi could easily flee to avoid criminal responsibility.
Selimi was arrested yesterday during a joint operation involving the Kosovo Police, the Special Prosecution, and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI).
The court also assessed that if the suspect were released, he could interfere with evidence and witnesses and may reoffend under similar or more severe circumstances.
Furthermore, the court emphasized that the nature of the alleged offense is serious, and therefore, detention is deemed a necessary and appropriate measure in this criminal case. Any alternative measure would be insufficient to ensure the successful conduct of the criminal proceedings, prevent obstruction, or mitigate the risk of repeated criminal activity.
