Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has dismissed Serbia’s diplomatic protest note to Zagreb as “complete nonsense,” rejecting Belgrade’s accusations that Croatia is interfering in Serbia’s election process and that Croatian media are reporting unfairly on the country’s domestic political affairs.

“It is completely absurd for Croatia, supposedly portrayed as a half-external, half-internal enemy, to interfere in Serbia’s political process and electoral competition,” Plenković said.

Serbia had accused Croatia of interfering in its elections and criticised what it described as increasingly frequent and biased coverage of Serbian domestic politics by Croatian media.

Plenković countered that Croatian media are free to report according to their own assessments and opinions, stressing that Croatia is not interfering in Serbia’s electoral process.

He also delivered a direct message to Belgrade, urging Serbian leaders to focus on their own election campaign and citizens rather than blaming Croatia.

“Croatia is not interfering in this matter, and this is not our issue. But we have questions concerning values on which Serbia should make progress, instead of sending us ridiculous protest notes,” Plenković said, according to Croatia’s Hina news agency.
