The Veterans Organization of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL UÇK) has expressed its full support for the statement made by the Ombudsperson, Naim Qelaj, who raised a number of concerns regarding the operations of the Specialized Chambers. These concerns were based on complaints from the parties involved.
The OVL UÇK emphasized issues such as:
- The prolonged pre-trial detention of individuals.
- Lack of transparency in the procedures.
- Inability to visit all prisoners.
- Disregard for the local security institutions.
The organization also pointed to the selective and biased approach the court has displayed since its creation.
Original OVL UÇK’s Statement:
- It is unacceptable for Kosovo citizens to be kept in detention for years, denied the right to a fair, speedy trial, and distant from their home country.
- Such treatment violates the presumption of innocence, and is unjust and harmful to the democratic future of Kosovo.
- OVL UÇK appreciates the Ombudsperson’s commitment to defending human rights and urges continuous monitoring and addressing violations against Kosovo’s accused citizens.
OVL UÇK has called on Kosovo’s institutions, international organizations, and the general public not to remain indifferent to the violation of the rights of former KLA fighters, who served the country with dignity and surrendered voluntarily, showing respect for justice.
