While Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama gathered European leaders in Tirana today for the European Political Community Summit under the theme “New Europe in a New World,” Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, hosted the Socialist youth delegation in Prishtina.
Through a post on Facebook, Kurti announced that Kosovo is hosting for the first time the work sessions of the World Council of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) — a major event that brings together progressive youth from every corner of the globe.
Kurti also revealed that Vetëvendosje’s youth wing was officially voted as an observer member of IUSY today, joining the global family of socialist youth.
Attendees of this event include the President of the International Union of Socialist Youth, Hend Mgaieth, and former Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou.
Addressing the youth, Kurti said they are the voice of a generation that refuses to accept injustice —
“The voice of a generation fighting for a world where equality, solidarity, and human dignity are inviolable and non-negotiable values.”
He emphasized the critical timing of the Council’s theme:
“Democracy, as we know it, faces major challenges: the rise of authoritarianism and extremism, societal polarization, attacks on fundamental rights, environmental crises, and the spread of hate ideologies.
In this context, the role of young people — gathered here from all continents — is more important than ever. You are the architects of a future where solidarity triumphs over division, and where our collective courage answers fear with determination, bravery, and hope.”
Highlighting Kosovo’s role as host, Kurti added:
“Kosovo is an example of the transformative power of youth and the determination to build a just society. Our history is one of struggle for liberation, resistance against oppression and exploitation, and relentless efforts to establish a state based on the rule of law, justice, equality, and an inclusive society that leaves no one behind.
From past sufferings, we have learned that freedom and justice are not gifts but victories that must be defended. From past and present challenges, we understand that the responsibility to protect democracy rests on our shoulders. And from our dreams for the future, we find the courage to act, to cooperate, and to build a better country with a bright future.”
He closed by warmly welcoming the youth:
“Prishtina is your home.”
