Kosovo’s Special Prosecution has officially indicted a Serbian national, identified as A.V., on charges of espionage and unauthorized possession of weapons.
According to the indictment, A.V. acted as a resident agent for Serbia’s Intelligence and Security Agency (BIA) and had, from an unspecified date until his arrest on June 26, 2024, collected and transmitted sensitive information to Serbian authorities. The data is alleged to have compromised Kosovo’s constitutional order, national security, and the lives of its officials and citizens.
Espionage Network Uncovered
Evidence reveals that A.V. recruited individuals of Serbian ethnicity working in international organizations in Kosovo. These individuals provided him with reports and information on political and security-related matters. A.V. also collected data on Serb individuals in Kosovo, falsely presenting them as collaborators with Kosovo’s security agencies.
The gathered intelligence was sent to R.G., a senior BIA officer and head of a BIA regional center in Serbia, through phone communications and in-person meetings.
Weapons Seized
During a search of the suspect’s residence, Kosovo Police seized a Crvena Zastava handgun and a pepper spray canister, both illegally possessed under Kosovo law.
Prosecution Seeks Extended Detention
The prosecutor has requested continued detention for A.V. until the trial concludes and is asking the court to declare him guilty and order him to cover legal expenses.
Wider Investigation Underway
Security sources told KosovaPress that the investigation is being expanded to include other individuals suspected of cooperating with Serbia’s BIA, suggesting that a broader espionage network may be operating within Kosovo.
