The Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica has filed an indictment against Slavko Simić, a Member of Parliament from the Serb List, and another individual for their alleged involvement in attacks on journalists in Leposaviq in 2023.
The news was announced by the Prosecution, as reported by Reporteri.net.
“The Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica informs the public that it has filed an indictment against the person with initials S.S., a Member of the Assembly of Kosovo, on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of ‘Participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism,’ under Article 404, paragraph 2, related to paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo,” the Prosecution announced.
Details of the Alleged Attack
According to the announcement, on June 16, 2023, during protests against the visit of former minister E.K. in Leposavić, the defendant S.S. allegedly intentionally participated in a crowd of more than eight people. The indictment states that as Minister E.K. exited the municipal building in Leposavić, masked civilians began throwing shock bombs towards the official vehicle. After the vehicle passed, the defendant allegedly “ordered the crowd to attack the media,” leading to an assault on journalists and media outlets of the Republic of Kosovo. This attack reportedly involved shock bombs, followed by punches, kicks, and hard objects such as concrete blocks, bricks, paint, and other items, resulting in severe bodily injuries to two journalists.
Furthermore, the Prosecution announced that the other defendant, U.V., is accused of directly participating in the use of force against the journalists of the Republic of Kosovo. U.V. is charged with committing the criminal offenses of “Assault” under Article 184, paragraph 3, subparagraph 3.1 of the KPRK, and “Participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense and hooliganism,” under Article 404, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
