Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, declared that Iran will never halt its nuclear enrichment program, emphasizing that this is a right guaranteed under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) for peaceful purposes, according to Rks News.
“Enrichment is our right—an inalienable right—and we intend to exercise it,” Iravani stated in an interview with CBS News.
He added that Tehran is open to negotiations, but not under pressure or threats. “Unconditional surrender is not negotiation. It is dictating policy to us,” he said.
The Iranian ambassador stated that due to recent acts of aggression, the proper conditions for resuming talks do not currently exist, and that there is no request at the moment for a meeting with the U.S. president.
Iravani also denied any threats against Rafael Grossi, the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), or the agency’s inspectors, who are still in Iran but have no access to nuclear facilities.
Responding to calls for Grossi’s arrest and execution—published by a newspaper close to Iran’s Supreme Leader—Iravani said he condemns such statements.
