President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has resumed her efforts to resolve the political deadlock that has paralyzed the formation of the Assembly. Today, she is set to hold individual meetings with the leaders of political parties in an attempt to find a consensual solution that would overcome the institutional crisis.
Unlike the last round of talks which involved a joint meeting this time President Osmani has chosen a one-on-one format, engaging in face-to-face discussions with each party leader to hear their positions directly and to encourage compromise.
The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, confirmed his meeting with the president and reiterated his party’s stance.
“Our position remains the same. For two or three months, we’ve been trying to find a solution by offering compromises. I’ll meet with the president again tomorrow. I see her engagement as positive, but I can’t predict the outcome. The blockade is a result of Vetëvendosje’s political stubbornness,” said Krasniqi.
Following him, President Osmani is scheduled to meet the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, and at 4:00 p.m. she will meet with Ramush Haradinaj, head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).
Also invited is the acting Prime Minister and LVV leader, Albin Kurti, who confirmed his attendance:
“I’ve participated in the past, and I’ll attend this meeting as well,” Kurti told the media while attending the groundbreaking ceremony for new bridges in Mitrovica.
Meetings with representatives of non-majority communities are expected to take place the following day. Duda Balja, a Bosniak MP, confirmed she has received an invitation for a meeting scheduled for Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
President Osmani last gathered political leaders on May 15, in a joint meeting where she praised their constructive behavior:
“I want to commend the leaders for their constructive approach, even though they had differing views on most topics. Each of them showed goodwill to move forward and enable the Assembly to be constituted as soon as possible,” she stated at the time.
