Gresa Krasniqi, daughter of former Kosovo Assembly Speaker Jakup Krasniqi, has expressed concern about her father’s condition following a telephone conversation during which he told her that he had refused an examination by doctors in The Hague.
According to Gresa, Krasniqi expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he believes he is receiving at the institution where he is being held, telling her that he would no longer accept medical care from its staff.
“One month ago, Dad was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Today, during a phone call, he told me: ‘Some doctors came to examine me. Of course, I refused. I am here unjustly. Every human right has been denied to me for six years, so I do not need their care either. I want you all to know that I will no longer accept any care from them,’” Gresa wrote in her post.
She said she was worried about her father’s decision, emphasizing that he is at an age when he needs special care.
“But as someone who has spent more than 30 years of my life knowing love and freedom, can I force another person, who has spent his entire life making sacrifices and who, with this latest sentence, is expected to spend more than 35 years in prison, to adapt to a system that has brought him nothing but suffering and injustice?
“How can I ask him to accept care from those institutions when he feels betrayed by the very justice system that was supposed to protect him? I felt so powerless in the face of such an unjust international power. We are here, Dad. We want you to stay strong. We want you to stay healthy.” Those were the only words I had the strength to say.
“Dad’s sentence is not a mistake waiting to be corrected. It is an injustice,” Gresa wrote.
