Kosovo’s deputies are set to convene today for their 41st attempt to constitute the Assembly, according to online newspaper Reporteri.net. Political parties have yet to reach an agreement on constituting the Assembly, even after the Constitutional Court’s judgment obliging them to do so within 30 days.

The Constitutional Court ruled last Thursday that the constitutive session of the ninth legislature of the Kosovo Assembly must conclude within 30 days at the latest.

Differing Interpretations and Continued Consultations

Political parties have offered various interpretations of this decision. A meeting held on Saturday between Vetëvendosje leader Albin Kurti and the heads of other parliamentary parties also failed to yield a result.

In efforts to find a solution, President Vjosa Osmani has re-engaged. On Wednesday, Osmani hosted Kurti, the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Memli Krasniqi, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) Lumir Abdixhiku, and the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) Ramush Haradinaj, in an attempt to help find a way out of the institutional crisis.

During the meeting, Osmani urged the leaders to reach a consensus on the Assembly’s constitution “as soon as possible,” or within the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court, the Presidency stated in a communiqué after the meeting.
