Kosovo and the region are expected to experience a dramatic weather shift this week, as a powerful cold front is set to replace the intense heatwave that has gripped much of the Balkans.

According to meteorological forecasts, strong cold air masses will begin moving in from the northwest of the European continent starting Wednesday. These systems will sweep through Central Europe and the northwestern Balkans, affecting countries including northern Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, northern Ukraine, and Romania. Heavy rainfall, intense lightning storms, and wind gusts reaching up to 130 km/h are expected in those areas.

Locally, the hot air masses will still dominate on Tuesday, though increasing cloud cover is forecasted by the afternoon and evening hours. These conditions could lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds reaching up to 70 km/h.

Starting Wednesday, a significant drop in temperatures—by as much as 20°C—is expected as the cold front takes hold. This will bring widespread clouds, localized rain showers, and a dramatic cooling that will continue into Thursday.

Thursday’s weather is also expected to remain under the influence of these cold air masses, with frequent cloud cover and occasional sunny spells. Temperatures will stay unusually low for the season, and isolated rain showers may still occur.

By Friday, the cold influence will begin to ease gradually. Although partial cloud cover will linger, temperatures will start to rise again but remain below 30°C.

The weekend is forecasted to be mostly sunny with light cloud coverage, especially on Saturday. Daytime highs will climb toward 32°C, signaling a return to more typical summer warmth.

Winds throughout the week will blow from various directions and are expected to be particularly strong on Tuesday, with speeds ranging from 20 to 70 km/h.

Minimum temperatures will range between 8°C and 19°C, while maximum temperatures will vary between 16°C and 36°C. The hottest conditions will be seen early in the week, while the coldest are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
