Elected deputies are set to convene today for the forty-ninth time in a continuation of the session to constitute the ninth legislature of the Kosovo Assembly. The session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.

This marks more than five months since the parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo, yet the Assembly remains unconstituted. All previous attempts to continue the session have failed because the coalition of Vetëvendosje, Guxo, and Alternativa lacks the necessary votes to elect a new Assembly Speaker.

Albulena Haxhiu, the proposed candidate, has failed in six attempts to secure the required votes in an open ballot. Furthermore, the formation of a commission for a secret ballot has also failed.

Looming Constitutional Deadline

President Vjosa Osmani has warned that if the Kosovo Assembly is not constituted by July 26, the deadline set by the Constitutional Court, there must be legal consequences for the deputies.

She emphasized that preparations are underway for a constitutional interpretation regarding the political crisis. If institutions are not formed this weekend, the matter will be sent to the country’s highest legal body early next week.
